Quininib is a monoclonal antibody that targets the VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and inhibits the binding of VEGF to this receptor. The inhibition of VEGFR2 signaling by quininib leads to reduced angiogenesis and anti-angiogenic effects in vivo. This drug has shown clinical relevance in models of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Quininib also has anti-angiogenic effects on a cell line derived from human umbilical vein endothelial cells and a mouse model for corneal neovascularization.
